silex is sourceforge project of the month!

We haven't been communicating much recently because we have been busy with Silex. It has been well worth the trouble because Silex is project of the month on Sourceforge! Read all about it here : http://sourceforge.net/community/june-project-of-the-month/ For those of you new to Silex, it's a Flash based CMS. I could go on about what makes it so cool, but the best is to have a look for yourself : http://silex-ria.org/ Finally, if you're interested in participating, let us know! We need developers of course, but if you want to help with a community in your country, or do some design, we could use the help. links ------ website : http://silex-ria.org/open.source.flash.cms/ demo: http://hoyau.info/demos/silex_server/ download: http://silex-ria.org/open.source.flash.cms/silex/telecharger/ documentation: http://silex-ria.org/help/documentation/home/ forum: http://silex.hoyau.info/forum_en/rss: http://silex-ria.org/cgi/scripts/feed.php?id_site=open.source.flash.cms&query=tags:*newsen* source code: https://silex.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/silex/trunk mailing lists: http://sourceforge.net/mail/?group_id=192954 license: http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.html

A bientôt, lex.

Still small but so much bigger!

Hello all,

Just a message to say that there is much more action in SILEX forum than on the mailing list these times, which is less intrusive by the way. It is mainly due to the fact that the community has really gotten bigger since SILEX entered the top 200 of SourceForge.net, since 8 months now. The English speaking silexers joined the French ones so we have to translate all messages in English, so we speak less... but do not do less!

The contributors have prepared several surprises which are being tested right now and which will let you bring SILEX websites to a really higher level of functionalities. You will be informed soon about it so stay plugged to the mailing list, to the rss feed and of course on the forum.

Bye, lex.

The SILEX around the world

- abstract -

The official site , [[http://silex-ria.org/]] was already in French and in English. We have now translated it into Spanish. Was it Hell redoing everything? No, it was no problem thanks to SILEX's multi-context feature... ¿Cómo es esto posible?

- content -

Thanks to SILEX's multi-context, it is possible to easily manage integration of multiple versions of the site. An element is visible in certain contexts only. Certain elements can belong to multiple versions/contexts, which greatly helps maintenance and updates.

Examples of contexts: - HD (high definition) / LD (low definition), - fr (french)/ en (english) / es (spanish), ...

In the case of multilingual sites, SILEX switches automatically to the language of the browser. Take a look at [[http://silex-ria.org/]] and switch from one language to another with the flags, you won't be disappointed: switching time is impressive! Only the elements that are specific to the new context are reloaded, and you don't start from the welcome page.

SILEX, for a rock solid site

abstract

A new website is now available at [[http://silex-ria.org|http://silex-ria.org]]. It has been produced with SILEX of course... What could be better than a multilingual, seo friendly Flash website?

content

The new multilingual functionality is used to provide you with a website in English and French and soon in Spanish. Nothing was duplicated, just like the software itself it switches automatically to the appropriate language and you are able to switch from a language to another during navigation.

The website is completely SEO friendly thanks to the HTML equivalent and the sitemap, which are generated on the fly for search engines. An RSS feed is also generated on the fly for you to easily stay in touch with the project: http://silex-ria.org/cgi/scripts/feed.php?id_site=open.source.flash.cms&query=tags:news_en

Veinards!

when SILEX gets bigger than a silex

abstract

SILEX entered the top 100 open source project of SourceForge.net this month. And this is because it has been full of special occasions to grow for SILEX lately. Three new projects are using it to produce Flash multilingual applications in a cooperative environment. And also...

content

Mood Media (http://www.moodmedia.com/) now uses SILEX for the touch screens distributed in France and Belgium for telephony operators. 5 people have been working to produce the first application of a long list. In 8 days they have produced an 80 pages application in NL and FR which introduces all tarifs and telephones of Proximus and Belgacom companies in an intuitive and interactive way. It was restless for everybody because they discovered tons of bugs and the team had to fix it... Good for you who come after!

A high school in computer science, Esigetel will use SILEX to create and maintain its website. The employees and manager have agreed that it's the best affordable way to have an up to date website - up to date content and up to date toward technology. And SEO friendly of course! Special thanks to Pol and Joel who have almost finished designing the 76 pages in less than 10 days.

The 3d project is confidential, I can not say too much about it. It does not use any advanced functionality, it only uses SILEX as an easy way to put pieces of Flash and png images together. The point is that a very high trafic is expected and we had to check every details of SILEX loading process. I can say now that all part of the application is reliable, on all the common platforms.

It has been a crazy month for SILEX and we are still in a beta version! The release will come very soon since it only lacks a piece documentation, tutorials and a French version - I can not go through that one, I would be hassled by designers who learned English the French way.

Will the SILEX be sharp enough?

abstract

This 3rd update of the beta version of SILEX v1 is the last one before v1RC1.

  • improvement of the ergonomics of the toolboxes and of the installation
  • new components
  • new layouts

content

With SILEX v1 beta 3, we introduce tabs in the properties toolbox to make access to the players properties easier. The installation is completely automatic and detects the hosting capabilities to enable URL rewriting for SEO.

A set of buttons and other basic components is included in the distribution. It is straightforward to edit the sources available in the repository in order to modify their appearance and behavior.

Two new layouts have been released in order to demonstrate how easy it is to build new skins with SILEX components for Flash IDE. See an example of use of the new layouts here:

Big thanks to those who helped testing the v1 beta 2 which had several critical bugs in it... Now they will be able to enjoy this very last version before SILEX v1.
